Féile TOSTA sa Daingean mar chuid d’Fhéile na Bealtaine

Posted on May 10th, 2016

D’éirigh go hiontach ar fad le TOSTA sa Daingean mar chuid d’Fhéile na Bealtaine 28 Aibreán – 2 Bealtaine!

Leag Coiste Fhéile na Bealtaine clár bríomhar éagsúl amach d’ionad TOSTA ar an gcé sa Daingean ar feadh trí lá. I measc na gnéithe a bhí i gceist bhí clár scannáin ó na réigiúin ar leithligh atá páirteach i dtogra TOSTA.

Ina measc siúd a chur ceol beo ar fáil bhí na grúpaí Imlé, Scléip agus Baile Átha Cliath á Loscadh agus Ceathráid Engegard ón Ioruaidh. Léiríodh an dráma an Eilifint sa G.P.O. le haisteoirí ón Lab, thug Diarmuid de Faoite blaiseadh dá dhráma siúd bunaithe ar Phádraic Ó Conaire, agus bhí cur i láthair litríochta agus filíochta ó Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde ó Ghaeltacht Thír Chonaill.

Bhí Seó Sorcais curtha i láthair ag Guido Fanzini a d’fhág an dream óg faoi dhraíocht. Le linn imeachtaí na n-óg ar Lá na bPáistí a cuireadh an mósáic dhaonna le chéile i bPáirc an Bhaile, cuirfear leis an mír a deineadh a thaifead sa Daingean agus cuirfear le chéile le míreanna ós na réigiúin eile de réir a chéile, ag ceiliúradh éagsúlacht na dteangan ós na ceantair ar fad.

Bhí sé an-spéisiúil fáilte in athuair a chur roimh Xabier Agote, Uachtarán Albaola i dTír na mBascach, go dtí Ionad an Bhlascaoid. Is san áit seo cúpla bliain ó shin a thug sé féin agus daoine eile faoi ndear gurb ionann an focal Tosta, an suíocháin atá i mbád, agus Tochta mar atá sa naomhóg agus d’fhan an t-ainm mar theideal an togra seo ó shin i leith.

B’é an ceolchoirm i Halla na Feothanaí istoíche Dé Domhnaigh buaic phointe na n-imeachtaí ar fad. B’é seo an chéad uair ag an deichniúr cheoltóir as na réigiúin uilligh teacht le chéile ar stáitse mar Bhanna Tosta go poiblí. Gan dabht b’é an chéad éisteacht phoiblí ar rosc-amhrán Tosta! Bhí lán a’ tí i láthair agus bhaineadar fíor-shásamh as an oíche de réir gach cosúlacht.

Spreag an togra seo fíor-shuim sa phobal go háitiúil mar go bhfuil nascanna láidre acu le cuid des na réigiúin, agus san am gcéanna gur beag trácht a bhí cloiste maidir le tuilleadh acu. I gcaitheamh an deireadh seachtaine bhí bia úr le fáil i mbialann ócáidiúil i mBaile TOSTA agus bhí an-éileamh ar an paella agus tapas a bhí curtha ar fáil ann! Bhí an t-ealaíontóir Gailíseach Ana Belén Tajes, a chaith seal i gConamara le déanaí i láthair i gcaitheamh an ama ag cur go mór leis an éagsúlacht cultúrtha a bhí le brath.

Eagraíodh baile TOSTA ar an gcé le caoinchead agus le comhoibriú an Mhaistir Cuain, Nigel Collins. Táimíd fíor-bhuíoch do féin agus do mheitheal oibre Fhéile na Bealtaine as a ndíograis agus as an ndúthracht a chaitheadar le féile den scoth a chur i láthair.

Dingle TOSTA was a very successful part of Féile na Bealtaine programme last weekend 28 April – 2 May!

The Féile na Bealtaine committee presented a varied and interesting programme of events in the TOSTA village location at the quayside in Dingle over the course of three days. As part of the programme of events a series of short films was presented from the seven regions of the project. Musical highlights included the group Imlé, Scléip, Dublin Burning and the Engegard Quartet from Norway. The play Eiliphint sa G.P.O, performed by actors from An Lab, Diarmuid de Faoite presented a flavour of his award-winning play on Pádraic Ó Conaire and Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde from the Donegal Gaeltacht area gave a reading of his own poetry and literature.

Guido Fanzini presented a Circus Show which was thoroughly enjoyed by the children present. During the Children’s Events Programme, a human mosaic was created in the town park. This work will be added to in the other regions as a celebration of linguistic diversity throughout the different regions of TOSTA.

It was a pleasure to welcome Xabier Agote, President of Albaola in the Basque Country, back to Ionad an Bhlascaoid. It was here a few years ago that he and others noticed that the name Tosta, the seat in a boat, and Tochta as in the naomhóg (small boat in West Kerry), were similar and thus the name of this project was born.

The concert in the Hall of Feothanach on Sunday night was one of the highpoints of the weekend. This was the first time that the ten musicians from all of the regions came together on stage as the TOSTA Band. Of course it was also the first time that the TOSTA anthem was performed in public in front of a live audience! The full house audience showed their appreciation of the historic moment through rapturous applause.

This project was of huge interest to the local community as there are strong links with some of the regions, and also huge curiousity was aroused in the less familiar areas. Throughout the weekend fresh food was served in the TOSTA village and there was a huge demand for the paella and tapas available there. The Galiciain artist Ana Belén Tajes, who was in residence in Conamara was around throughout the festival and added to the cultural variety to be witnessed.

The TOSTA village was located on the Quayside in Dingle through the co-operation of the Harbour Master, Nigel Collins. We are very grateful to him and to all of the Féile na Bealtaine community for their diligence and dedication in ensuring such a successful event.
