‘S e ionad cliùiteach a th’ ann an Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, air aithneachadh gu h-eadar-nàiseanta mar Ionad Nàiseanta Cànan is Cultar na Gàidhlig agus a tha na chom-pàirtiche ann an Oilthigh na Gàidhealtachd is nan Eilean (OGE). ‘S e Sabhal Mòr Ostaig an aon cholaiste san t-saoghal a tha a’ tairgsinn foghlam adhartach is àrd-ìre tro mheadhan Gàidhlig na h-Alba. Tha goireasan air leth math air an àrainn – a tha suidhichte ann an ceann a deas àlainn an Eilein Sgitheanaich air taobh siar na h-Alba – agus tha beairteas eòlais is goireasan rannsachaidh ann.

‘S e ionad foghlaim ùr-nòsach, innleachdach a th’ ann an Sabhal Mòr Ostaig agus tha luchd-ceumnachaidh an t-Sabhail Mhòir a-nis ann an dreuchdan cudromach ann am foghlam, na meadhanan, na h-ealain, agus leasachadh eaconamach is sòisealta. Tha Sabhal Mòr Ostaig an teis-meadhan brosnachadh ealan is cultar na Gàidhlig agus tha prògram do luchd-ealain air mhuinntireas ann an ceòl, litreachas, dràma is na h-ealain Gàidhlig stèidhichte aig a’ Cholaiste.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI is an iconic institution, internationally recognised as the National Centre for the Gaelic language and culture and an academic partner within the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).  The only college of its kind in the world offering further and higher education through the medium of Scottish Gaelic, its spectacular campus – situated in the stunningly beautiful south end of the Isle of Skye on the west coast of Scotland – boasts exceptional facilities and is host to a wealth of specialised resources and expertise. 

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is a modern, innovative seat of learning and graduates of SMO occupy important positions today in spheres such as education, the media, the arts, economic and social development.  SMO plays a leading role in the promotion of the Gaelic arts and culture and hosts a programme of residencies for artists in music, literature, drama and the visual arts.
